Which type of fault is more frequent in overhead transmission lines and why ?

 

•  In overhead transmission lines Single phase to ground fault (L-G) is more frequent than any other type of fault.

• This is due to overhead lines are open type conductors. 

• There are more chances for single phase of transmission line getting a ground path due to getting in contact with any object and in some cases there is failure of insulator but it occurs in one of the phase at a time.

• Due to this reasons out of all faults like L-G fault in overhead transmission line is more frequent.
